Chapter 2

Ing sat at his normal lunch table with Cam, the one in the corner that no one ever noticed.  He was intently staring at the notebook in front of him, with a lock of un-combed black hair hanging down over his grey eyes.  He was too focused to notice the girl that sat down across from them.

Cam did, however.  When the girl sat down, he started fidgeting.  Nobody else ever sat at this table.  Didn't she know?  Apparently she didn't, because she sat right down and smiled at him.  This was strange.  Nobody ever smiled at him.  She must be new.  He nudged Ing.  "Ing." he whispered.  Ing didn't seem to notice.  Cam looked across the table.  The girl was still smiling.  Cam nudged Ing again, more persistently.  "Ing." he said, the strain growing in his voice.  Ing didn't look up.  "What?" he said, still intently focusing at his notebook.  Cam bit his lip.  "There's someone sitting across the table."  This got  Ing's attention.  He looked up.  Seeing the strange, smiling girl, he scribbled something in his notebook and passed it to Cam.  Cam relaxed. He was used to this procedure.  When either of them wanted to talk to a teacher or another kid, Ing would write what should be said and Cam said it.  It was easier for both of them, as long as Ing used easy words.  Cam looked at the notebook and took a deep breath.  Looking up, he said clearly, "Hi, my name is Cam.  What is yours?"

Hearing the good-looking boy across from her speak, Krissy relaxed.  She knew she had chosen a table with misfits at it, but when neither of them had spoken, all she could do was keep smiling, and she was starting to wonder if she should have just sat with someone who only looked semi-popular.  However, hearing those words, she had been slightly reassured.  "Hi Cam, my name is Krissy." she said easily.  Turning to the other boy, she said, "What's your name?"  The boy scribbled something else in his notebook and passed it to Cam.  Cam spoke out loud "His name is Ing".  Krissy smiled, trying not to be daunted by the strange method of communication.  "That's a nice name." she said.  Cam nodded uncertainty, not sure how to respond.  Both of the boys stared expectantly at her.

Ing stared at the new girl.  He had already figured out she was new, but thought she would have figured out that no one paid attention to them.  Apparently not.  He gave a small sigh.  She would need helping along.  He wrote another sentence in his notebook and passed it to Cam.  "Nobody sits with us." Cam read.  There, that should get rid of her.  But her next action made it clear that she couldn't take a hint.  She frowned.  "Why doesn't anyone sit near you?  You look nice enough."

Of course, by now Krissy knew why nobody sat near them.  She wasn't a complete idiot.  However, it couldn't hurt to be nice, could it?  After all, even these boys had to be better than the "friends" she had had at home.  Cam looked very nervous, and shot a what-should-we-do? look at Ing.  Ing scribbled something in his notebook and passed it to Cam.  Cam read it and shot Ing another look, this one more on the are-you-sure? page.  Ing gave Cam an exasperated look, this one harder to read because the dark hair obscured his eyes.  Cam gulped and read one last sentence.  "Becu-becuase we're speds."

Chapter 1

Krissy took a deep breath and clicked.  There.  All her social networking accounts, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, were deleted.  She sighed.  "Come on!" shouted her mother.  Krissy grabbed her backpack and jumped into the car, ready to start a new life.

Cam sat at his desk in the Reading room, struggling with a grammar problem.  "This makes no sense!" he yelled.  Ms. Slane hurriedly rushed over and took away the paper.  "It's okay, it's okay" she murmured soothingly.  Cam took a deep breath.  He tried to calm down, but he was still bright red in the face.  After a few minutes, disaster seemed to be averted.  Sighing, he looked down.  "I'm a failure" he groaned.  "No you're not" whispered Ms. Slane.  "You did a wonderful job at calming down. Cam grinned.  "I did, didn't I?" As always, this made Ms. Slane smile.  "That's my handsome boy."  Cam tossed his hair.  If anyone had just seen him walking down the street, they probably would think he was a supermodel.  He had a deep tan skin, golden hair, and bright green eyes.  However, a closer look would reveal he was far from.  People would say "maybe it's the way he smiles" or "maybe it's the way he talks".  The most common statement that everyone seemed to agree on, however, was "It's his eyes.  There's something in his eyes."

Prologue

Krissy sat on her bed reading a book.  Or at least trying to.  Every time she got into it, her phone rang.  She sighed.  It was going off again.  She glanced at it.  It was a text from her "best friend" Sara, about some random breakup.  Who cares?  And why do you have to tell me if it has nothing to do with me? Even though she was the "most popular" girl in the 8th grade, she didn't like it.  Sometimes she even envied the girls who only had a small group of friends.  Their life actually seemed interesting.  Sighing, she switched her phone off.  If anyone asks, I'll say my phone got taken away.  She picked up her book again.  Maybe now I can get some peace.  But no such luck.  Her mother yelled up the stairs.  "Krissy, come down here!" Krissy sighed and trudged downstairs.
"What is it mom?" she said in a non-caring sort of way.  Her mom frowned.  "Honey, I have some bad news.  We're moving."  It was all Krissy could do to keep the huge grin off her face.
